Hartley Pit Disaster 1862

To commemorate 150 years since the disaster, Northern Voices Community Projects have produced Still the Sea Rolls On – The Hartley Pit Calamity of 1862 with contributions of writing, drawings & photographs by local people. From this book,  a selection of poetry was recorded at the historic Mining Institute, Newcastle upon Tyne.

The voices & creative response by writers were recorded as a remembrance of an important historical event in North East history & culture. By preparing an online podcast of the writers, this enables the work, the book & the commemoration to reach a wider audience & have a legacy beyond the period of commemoration.
