I was Robert Redford’s Cleaner
Well not me personally, but it is the intriguing title of the short story in our latest podcast. I had a thoroughly enjoyable time at Wendy Robertson’s house in Bishop Auckland a few weeks ago where I recorded an extract from Wendy’s latest novel (CLICK HERE). In front of a roaring fire, I also recorded Avril Joy, reading this short story from her latest book, a collection of short stories Millie and Bird: Tales of Paradise published by Iron Press. This was shortly followed by a very well attended book launch at The Teikyo University of Japan in Durham.
Avril is an award winning writer, Mille and Bird won the Costa Short Story Award 2012. I love Avril’s work with its great insight and wonderful subtext. Through Room to Write, Avril and Wendy are also a great champions for aspiring writers.
You can catch Avril Joy reading from Millie and Bird: Tales of Paradise at the wonderful Eclectic Iron Festival run by the wonderfully eclectic Peter Mortimer of Iron press. Come along to Cullercoats RNLI on Friday 5th June 2015 at 7.30pm. To book tickets CLICK HERE
